PS5 to support VRR (variable refresh rate). VRR compatible patches are scheduled to be delivered to some launched titles
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on April 26, that VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) correspondence in PLAYSTATION 5 will start sequentially from this week.
VRR is a function of synchronizing the frame rate of the game video output from the PS5 body or the like and the display refresh rate in real time. This makes it possible to minimize or eliminate frames (stuttering) and tiring (teering). It should be noted that HDMI 2.1 is installed and combined with a TV or PC monitor corresponding to VRR. Also, although VRR is also known in standards such as NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreSync, PS5 should not cope with these standards.

After completing the VRR-enabled update of the PS5 body, VRR is automatically turned on in the corresponding title if connected to the VRR compatible television and PC monitor of the HDMI 2.1. To turn off, it can be done from the setting “screen and video”.
Also, as additional options, it is possible to turn on VRR on PS5 titles that do not support VRR. In some titles, video quality may be improved. InSomniac Games has published a support page for VRR compatibility with PS5 on April 26. As in the previous list, the studio title such as “Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered” and “Ratchet & Crank Parallel Trouble” will support VRR. However, since those titles are originally operating in the frame rate, the effect by VRR is a slight improvement in variable resolution.
However, if the television / monitor corresponds to 120 Hz and can be combined with 120 Hz mode and VRR, the upper limit of the frame rate is released. Game graphic settings usually operate 30 or 60 fps as an upper limit, and it seems that more than 50% of the limit of frame rate is expected to exceed the upper limit.
